Esta é a história de Jessica Beniquez, uma jovem que pesava 145kg quando tinha 20 anos, por causa da sua alimentação desregrada e falta de exercício físico.
“Tudo o que eu fazia era comer e ver televisão. Quando era criança, era muito chata para comer. Só comia massa, nuggets de frango e batatas fritas, e raramente vegetais”, conta.
Tudo piorou quando Jessica conseguiu o primeiro emprego, pois aproveitava o dinheiro que recebia para comer em restaurantes de fast food frequentemente.
Aos 19 anos, a jovem foi diagnosticada com hipertensão e passou a ter de tomar medicação, mas ainda assim não mudou o seu estilo de vida.
Certo dia, deu por si a pensar “O que estou a fazer? Sempre quis mudar, mas nunca tomei a iniciativa”, o que lhe deu o empurrão necessário.
Contudo, levou algum tempo até descobrir como mudar de forma saudável e equilibrada. “No início, eu costumava tomar batidos. Como era chata para comer, não sabia necessariamente por onde começar e eles pareciam a opção mais simples. Depois de três meses a beber dois batidos e a comer uma refeição por dia, reduzi para um batido e duas refeições, e no final desisti por completo”, conta.
Com o tempo, começou a incorporar mais alimentos saudáveis na sua alimentação, e foi experimentando com a comida, tendo mesmo eliminado os refrigerantes.
Entretanto, percebeu que não devia apenas focar-se no que comia, mas sim na quantidade. Então, depois de passar a controlar as poções, começou a ver resultados!
“Gosto de poder comer o que quero com moderação. Se de vez em quando quero um gelado ou uma bolacha, eu como. Dizer não a essas coisas não funciona para mim”, diz Jessica.
Jessica também começou a praticar desporto. Inicialmente, fazia apenas passeios noturnos e alguns exercícios em casa, mas depois inscreveu-se no ginásio e contou com a ajuda de um personal trainer.
Em apenas 17 meses, conseguiu perder 77kg! Posteriormente, submeteu-se a uma cirurgia para retirar o excesso de pele – um total de 5,5kg.
“Passei cerca de uma semana de dor intensa após a cirurgia, mas depois comecei a andar de novo e lentamente voltei à minha vida normal”, conta.
Quando tudo parecia finalmente correr bem, Jessica foi diagnosticada com um linfoma de Hodgkin. A jovem já tinha reparado num nódulo linfático inchado sob a axila, mas achou que podia estar relacionado com os treinos. Porém, a mãe insistiu para ela ir ao médico.
Agora, Jessica faz quimioterapia e continua a lutar, apesar de muitas vezes esta exausta. Felizmente, tem uma grande força interior recém-descoberta, que lhe permite continuar no ginásio e a correr, tudo moderadamente.
“Tenho dias sombrios, mas tenho sorte de poder fazer muitas coisas. Quero mostrar aos outros que nada é impossível e que todos podem fazer o que quiserem, independentemente da situação”, disse Jessica.
